I meant a good body guy, who actually can hammer it out, smooth and then even with lead. Bondo eventually cracks anywhere.

The last time I stumbled over the middle part it was on a UK site, but I'm sure there are many others.

LOL, nice. Was she enraged, livid or just plain angry?

Honestly, she was very understanding. The only thing she had to say was, "I always tell you to be careful and you laugh at me? Now you know why I still say it." My response? "Yes dear." ;)

Roger

allaircooled 04-13-2014 03:50 PM

"Yes dear" is the only acceptable response at that point.

That aluminum lid looks real nice but out of my league.

Roger 911 04-13-2014 04:02 PM

Here is a pre-impact shot. Since I have the "contemporary" styling theme going, I keep leaning towards the 964 decklid. If it were still a "chrome" car, maybe not. But with the blacked out trim and Boxster wheels, I think the 964 lid works.

Dang good looking car took an ugly hit. Sorry to hear (see)....

vash 04-13-2014 04:42 PM

the title of the thread sounded much more awful..

dent or not, that is still one sweet ride!! you'll get it right..

allaircooled 04-13-2014 04:58 PM

Here is my narrow body with the 964 spoiler. I don't seem to have one with it down. Like I mentioned before, I removed it and it is a lot heavier than stock lid.

New rear deck lid and middle panel can be purchased from Restoration Design. My 70T was wrecked (during engine work) several states away last year. final stages of windows out/rust repair/ etc. and repaint from Guards Red to original tangerine almost done. Good luck! Steve

Hi all,

I have a fairly nice Porsche 911 Carrera 2 (964, years 1989-1994) Engine Lid for sale OEM# 96451201001

I'm looking to get about $350 or so for it.

You can check it out on eBay here.
Porsche 964 Carrera 2 1989 1994 Engine Lid 96451201001 | eBay

Note: Can be adapted for early 911 by modification of the hinges on the car (google it).

I have tested the motor and switches on the lid, all found to be working. The plastic baffle under the grill may be worn out by now, cheap to replace. If you buy the lid, contact me to see if I still have a new baffle.
In fact, I bought this many years ago to fit onto my 1975 911 "tricked out" car. I sold my '75 911, and no longer have use for this lid.

There are minor/moderate scratches and chips. No dents. Bolts included See picture for details. Email me for questions. The lid is located in the Seattle area, so local pick up or drop off can be arranged.

Weight is only 25lbs.

OEM plug is on the harness. It is currently piggy-back-wired to work with my little controller computer (not included). I can remove the piggy-back-wires before shipping if desired.
Crating/boxing fee $15, or local pickup/delivery in the Seattle area.

Shipping is about $35 to $45

The link to the Restoration Design stuff is great. Actually, a lot of those prices are better than what I would've expected.

Anytime you crack open a paint can and gun, it's a grand. Add materials and parts and yea, you're at $2K or so. Sucks! But, it could have been much worse. I read that you'll file a claim. My agent always recommended conservative approaches regarding claims. One, if your deductible is significant, like $1000, you're filing an at fault claim for maybe a thousand dollar check. But you'll have a claim on your record, and it will count as an at fault one to boot. My understanding is the number and frequency of claims is a big deal to insurers, and the amount less so. So my guy recommends saving claims for big deal incidents and non at fault ones when possible. (Pay now save later vs collect now and pay more later and every year after)

So...I'd think hard about a claim. Just my not even worth 2 cents opinion~

I'm not sure what he has on there now isn't aluminum to begin with after reading the following.

$1,995.00
(New) 911 S Replacement Full Aluminum Engine Lid - 1965-94 | Aase Sales Porsche Parts Center
Quote:

This deck lid is a 1968 onward pattern, however it fits all 911 models from 1965 to early 90's 964s.

For the 1969 model, 2.0 L, 911 S Porsche introduced this full aluminum version of the standard steel rear hood.

This remained standard fitment on all 911 S models up until the 2.2 L model in 1971, albeit a few 1972 models supplied with the lid.
I have no idea what the standard steel lid weighs, maybe someone will chime in. We know it somewhere in the 5 to 25 lbs range, the middle number of those two is 15 lbs, but that is pure happenstance.

EDIT

In the Pelican classifieds right now, 1971 deck lid $300

This is very good advice. I work in the insurance industry as well. Here is my rationale for filing a claim. If it truly is a $2K repair, that puts it at $1750 for me net my ded. At fault losses are significant in the pricing algorithms for insurers (and should be). This may cause our premium to increase by $200-250 per year. This will remain chargeable for 3-5 years (varies by insurer, state, etc.). So again, this supports your agent's advice. If this was an $800-1000 loss, or if I had a $1000 ded, probably wouldn't make sense to file a claim. But a $2K loss with $250 ded, probably yes.
