How far gone is too far?

I have a '74 targa that I am trying to prep for a vinyl wrap. I took the door off because there is some rust at the bottom of the door skin that needed tending too. I already knew there was some bondo on the door and it had been repainted. Also what rust was there was repaired poorly. I picked up a lower 6" skin section from restoration design and was planning to weld that in and call it a day. However it need a lot more work than just that. So do I painstakingly re-form the damaged areas; buy a whole skin for ~$300; or a new door? Obviously the easiest answers are also the most expensive. Has anyone dealt with this much damage and have any suggestions?

The rust:

Overheated a cheap 4" grinder so I moved to something larger...

Don't feel bad about this one - it is a very common area that gets rusted on '74s and '75s in my experience - even here in California (SoCal) where it never rains. I would replace the door if you can find a nice mid-year door, then work that used one to fit. It's very hard to get all the rust out of this area. You could skin it, but that's a lot of work and it may not line up. Find a door...

If it was just the rust I would just weld in new metal and call it a day. The creases that I found make me think this is too much of a project right now. I will need to look harder. So far I have found locally a pair of doors from a '78 for $900 or a crashed tub for $3000.
