Common for those plastic bullet connectors to fall apart. On that 81 model, I have seen a high failure due to age of the O2 sensor control unit relay. It is under the passenger seat next to the control unit. A way to quick check the relay is remove the air filter & with the ignition on push up slightly on the air flow meter you should hear the frequency start to make a buzzing sound. If no buzz is heard , start troubleshooting at that relay.

P.S. push up just enough to start the freq valve,not enough to start the injectors & flood the engine & only for a second.
