Thermostat O ring, different type for 77?
I just took my engine out to change a few seals. When I took the thermostat out of the engine (internal thermostat), to replace the O ring it is different.
The NEW one from Foreign Intrigue has rounded edges, the one on the thermostat is almost square, they are the same diameter, but the NEW one wouldn't fill the groove in the thermostat, what gives? I replaced the old one and engine is back in, but I will be pulling it again in a month for the winter. Man does pulling the engine ever get easier each time http://www.pelicanparts.com/ultimate/smile.gifKnock on wood because I haven't started it or filled it with oil yet. Shawn |
Don't worry... after a couple of months, with the heat and pressure your new o-ring will look flat also.

O-Rings are NOT supposed to fully fill the groove!
E.g., for a 2mm dia. O-Ring, the groove measures 2.5 mm. O-Ring for the oil thermostat IS a round one (just bought it from Porsche). And feelyx is right of course. Jens |
