Anyone have any tips on changing one of these? Flanges and seals oh my!!!!
Can you install the crossover without removing the left exchanger? I ordered the parts thought I'd ask the board experts. Thanks JoeC. 1978 SC |

I am guessing you are talking about the exhaust crossover that runs under the flywheel. You should be able to replace it without removing either of the heat exchangers. I was able to remove/install mine easily, however; my engine was sitting next to the car, not in it

The crossover pipe is only one part. There is also a small flange mounted on the left heat exchanger with about 5cm of "mama" tube. This is where the graphite sealing ring sits.
If you can take both parts out (depending how the flanges are rusted), the length of the new parts is adjustable about 2 cm, so no problem to put them in w/o removing the heat exchangers. You better use a new sealing then on both sides of the part's assembly (one on the right flange to the crossover tube, one on the left side to the little flange. The graphite seal usually can be re-used. Jens |
