Need a favor. Which fuses are switched power in an '83?
I could use a quick favor. I have the battery and alternator out of my car so I can't verify myself. I'm replacing my old fuse panel with one of Fred Cook's ATO/ATC style. With Fred's panel you get 24 fuses in the same space as 21 (bonus!).
I want to use the extra fuses for some accessories. Can someone confirm if either fuse 20 or 21 is switched power? Or are those constant? I just want to be sure before I wire everything up. Thanks in advance!!! |
According to the factory spec manual 20 is the AC Blower and 21 elec windows so I believe both off until switched.

Reiver,
Thanks! I meant to say 19 & 20. My notes just say "+ from battery". Since 19 is the headlight washer and 20 is connected to relays for the front condenser fan and the evaporator fan I wasn't entirely sure because neither system works in my car. |
Switched

I believe both of those are switched. When I put the first panel in my SC years ago I split the condenser fan and evaporator fan between those two fuses to lower the load on 20. If you find that one or the other is not switched, let me know and I will make you a 2 position jumper. Good luck with your project! |
Thanks, Fred! I did split the load as you suggested. I moved the evap fan to one and the condenser fan to the other. I'll make up a pigtail jumper - no biggie.
I'm going to post a full write-up on my "lessons learned" from this project when I'm done. You wouldn't believe some of the stuff I found (and fixed) as a result. After doing this job, I can say that everyone should put this one on their list! I've got a handful of wires to terminate on the top side tonight and I should be done. |
