Cam Housing Cleaning

Is there an easy way to thoroughly clean the cam housing? Someone before me applied RTV type sealant and all kinds of other crap that doesn't belong on there EVERYWHERE on this thing. It is in the rocker shafts, and all over the top and bottom mounting surfaces. It is kind of a pain to pick/scrape that stuff off in small pieces when it is oily.

Also, can I remove the oil rails that run down the center and clean them? What is the best way to really get this thing clean prior to re-assembly?

Thanks,

JA

John,

An hour or two soaking in gasoline ought to soften that RTV into Jello consistency, and make it easy to remove with an acid brush.

Are you going to remove the cam spraybar plugs and clean out the tubes?

FYI cambox spray bar.......

Perfect.

That's what I needed to know... thanks Warren.

And yes, the spray bar is what I wanted pull out and clean. That post helped a bunch.

Thanks,

JA

Cool

I removed a bent spray bar one time by threading the thing after removing the plug at the end of the cam housing.

Just in case any of you ever have that problem.

Good luck,
David Duffield

Wayne,
I'm sure you must have received permission from PCNA to post those shop manual pages or are they from you're PET CD?

This would be considered light humor.
