Engine compartment light on Carrera tail?
I got a genuine Carrera tail at the Hershey swap meet this weekend, and installed it today. All went pretty smoothly, but I'm still scratching my head over one thing... the light.
On the original decklid, there's a cross bar with screw holes, midway between the latch mechanism and the A/C condenser. The Carrera tail (which came mounted on a decklid) is missing this completely. There appears to be no place to mount the light. Am I missing something? For now I coiled the wire and poked it out of the way, under the oil filter, with the other wires. But I would LIKE to have a working light if possible. Thanks -Glenn |

You will need to fabricate a sheetmetal mount and either have it spot welded to the inner liner rib, or just drill holes and nut/bolt it.
Then mount your light to the lid. I recently picked up an early Carrera tail and will be doing the same thing. Cooper |

Interesting. I guess these cars just didn't have lights back there? Kind of a bummer.
Thanks -Glenn |

I've had two 86's and an 88, and all of them have the same light. I've never heard of a Carrera not having an engine compartment light.

@Porschenut, not all of the 911SC or 3.2 Carreras came with an engine light.
I know of at least 1 '87 3.2 with a stock non-aero decklid that came with no engine comparent light installed. That being said, it did have the mounting tab welded into the lid already and was pre wired with the connector in engine bay. This was a 30,000 mile car in 2010 when I worked on it for the client. @alfisti, I also own a decklid and Genuine Porsche Carrera wing from an '87 Carrera 3.2 Cab. That one HAS the mounting tab for the engine comparent light. (I just did a visual double check moments ago) My thought is that you might have an earlier decklid with the Carrera wing mounted on it. Either way, you're still going to have to source a decklid with the tab and mount the wing to it, or, fabricate and install the mount. You will love how the wing stabilizes the car over 100mph. Big seat of the pants difference. Cooper |

Thanks folks. I guess the light isn't that important to me in the grand scheme of things.

I like the engine compartment light. Mine was problematic so I ordered a new one. Very convenient. Don't forget that it won't work if the parking lights aren't on. Just another one of those neat little things that makes these cars unique...
