Talking Lemans Movie..the "S" comes to light!

Some time ago, we had a brief debate over whether or not the '69 911S owned by Chad McQueen is the same car as used in the opening of the movie. The following is a quote from the Summer 2001 issue of "the ESSES", the early 911S Registry's quarterly (sometimes anyway) newsletter: "New member Eric Bryant is the proud and fortunate owner of a charcoal grey 1970 911S originally purchased by Steve McQueen and used in the opening sequence of the movie 'LeMans'. Eric's father bought it from Solar Productions in 1971." We now know where the car is...

I love that car- on the recent Speedvision showing of 'LeMans', Chad was in front of a light charcoal car- is that his?

The car looks great, but unfortunately the 911's suffer in comparison to the 917's when the racing sequences start. Tough competition!

I don't have cable, so didn't see the speedvision you mentioned. But Chad McQueen did show a charcoal grey '69 S at a SouCal car event. I don't think (could be wrong...) that his '69 is the '70 in the opening scenes of the movie. Just a cult trivia question, I suppose...

I'm so glad the car has been found! Can we get more details, pictures?
Maybe Chad's car was one of the others supplied by Porsche to the Le Mans movie - they supplied several apparently.
Can't wait to hear more info on the car!

Me neither, Anthony..but so far, all I have is this one blurb in the S registry's newsletter. But, after seeing pics posted of Chad McQueen's '69, then watching my tape of the movie? I'm convinced the posted pic of the '69 and the car in the movie opening scenes were not the same...other than color.

just a subsidiary question: I wonder why there is no DVD about this cult movie, neither in PAL nor NTSC ?

I know a lot of fans who are waiting for that, whereas few other Mc Queen movies have been released...

Anyone has a clue?

There have been rumors that a DVD is out (or soon too be out) in Japan!

Also, I think there was a thread about whether the S behind Chad in the 'Making of LeMans' was even the correct year.

For fans of the movie, beg, borrow or steal a copy of "A French Kiss With Death". I read this during a recent vacation and it is excellent! Lots of behind the scenes info. Warning: you may have a different view of Steve McQueen after reading the book!
