Axle / CV Joint swap

Currently replacing the 901 tranny installed by the PO in a 72. I have a 76 915 with 6 bolt 100 mm O.D. Cv joint flanges and the matching axle stubs.

First question is can I simply buy the required 6 bolt Cv joints and reuse the 901 axles or are the axles used with the 915 a different length ?

Second question are the axle stubs the same for the later cars and the cars with the early steel trailing arms, I have not pulled the stubs yet ?
