Stupid question

Why do some 911's have the gauges on the dash tilted?

xjoegtix 04-26-2014 07:48 PM

The tach?

allaircooled 04-26-2014 07:48 PM

To make them more visible I think.

georgew123 04-26-2014 07:49 PM

Tilted, as in clockwise or counterclockwise rotated from "normal"? If that is the question, some people rotate the guages to make them more visible depending on their steering wheel configuration. If they go with a smaller aftermarket wheel, then rotating the speedo or odo can be helpful to keep an eye on higher speed limits and/or redline.

Hope that makes sense... assuming that is your question?

Yes, that was my question, thank you for answering it :)

It's an old racer's trick to turn the tachometer so that your shift point is when the needle is pointing straight up.

As others have posted, a non stock steering wheel can cause visibility issues. I have my tach turned so that 6500 RPM is at the "top" of the needle sweep. Of course, mine sees 7000RPM frequently.:D

most of those pictures you see i bet have a MOMO wheel or another aftermarket SMALLER wheel, being so close to the dash, it covers up the 0-60 MPH and the oil pressure/temp gage. both are important so, just rotate the gage! the tach is dead on, no problem there unless you want to look cool.

I think you should be forced to give back your Porsches... We have rejected your membership. You can now purchase any other car, and Cayenne's. You do ask the dumbest questions...

mreid 04-27-2014 05:18 AM

Rich, PML did not start this thread.

Rich Gas 04-27-2014 05:38 AM

It's weird because I read some of his stuff over on the 930 side, and he's like Jekyll and Hyde... It's cool he has a slant 930 and all, but WTF

Come on, it doesn't hurt to ask questions. Even Thomas Edison asked some of the dumbest questions and look at how smart he became :)

Yeah...but, you do ask some pretty dumb questions, yet sometimes you seem with it and tuned in. Either split personalities or someone has access to your account. Which is it?

I just ask things I don't already know. I haven't been a Porsche 911/930 owner for that long so I don't exactly know everything about them yet. Once again, there's nothing wrong with asking questions.

I'm surprised, no one else has had any problems with the questions I ask and most of the time were happy to answer them.

Rich Gas 04-27-2014 06:37 AM

I don't have a problem with you... It's your questions....

Exactly.
I have my revmeter tilted to 5000 so I have this Mark up in full noticeable view.

In the past, weh I only had a 240kmf tach, I had it tilted too, to see up to the 130kmh-mark. Now with the 300kmh-tach its straight again, as I can see up to 140kmh.

The later was due to the 36 diameter wheel.

Okay, I'll try not to ask so many obvious questions if they annoy you that much...

No, ask any questions you feel like you need to. That is what this place is for. SmileWavy

Rich Gas 04-27-2014 08:59 AM

What allaircooled said... Just keep asking them... I'll point out if they're stupid or not... Look at the title of your thread...should be the title on most of them...

cgarr 04-27-2014 09:01 AM

I thought it was because nobody could ever get them in straight after taking them out? Ever try that??
