Setrab 72 row oil cooler in a 911 with RSR-type bumper
 

My '74 is almost finished with the 3.6 conversion, but regarding the 72 row Setrab oil cooler up front, the flat panel behind the cooler does not not look conducive to good air flow, anyone have any pics, experiences, tips, sneering or derision, heeh heeh, etc,

You can buy the rs style air deflector from elephant racing amongst others .

I installed a fiberglass bumper from Patrick Motorsports when i did my 3.6 last year,regardless of what you may think about air flow it is plenty to keep the engine temps down.My car with the 3.6 and front bumper mounted cooler runs cooler than my 3.2 ever did !

Don't even worry about it !

I had a DP motorsport front spoiler with an original RSR cooler on a 930. No cutout and it ran very cool.

It is not conducive to airflow, you are right. You might try it first though, I have the same setup in front with a lot more HP and I have no problems with heat. Slower air - to a point - is actually better at transferring heat off the cooler so you might find you are OK.

For the ultimate cooler airflow DIY check out Chuck (Elephant Racing)'s thread on the hood he cut and channeled to get flow through the front cooler. An extreme, and extremely cool solution.

I worried about the same thing, but it has not been an issue. When centered in my IROC front bumper opening (up and down), my cooler is just below the bodywork. Here are a couple of pictures (excuse my crude blacksmithing - I'm not an artist like the rest of you folks when it comes to fabricating stuff :(...). FWIW, I modified a fender-mount cooler and put it in the front bumper. Even in 90 degree weather, my temps never exceed 180F (no track time since I've installed this, though).

Better than mine,i'll have to rethink mine next time i remove the bumper !

If you look at the install above, you can see there is enough open space behind the lower half of the cooler to get good flow. I bet the air flowing under the car helps to pull it through too.
