Power seat motor replacement in seat back
I think my motor that adjusts the seat back is no longer functioning. Since the switch seems to reverse polarity so that motor runs in either forward or reverse, I applied power to the pins to see if the seat back motor would make a sound. It is totally silent. I tried this same method with the other two motors that adjust the seat bottom and both motors worked forward and reverse when polarity was changed.
My question is, how do I get to the motor in the seat back? It appears I have to take the upholstery off to access it. |

I can't tell what car that is from the picture. Are you sure the seat back is power? My 88 it is not. The two buttons on contro the tilt of the seat.

Yep, I'm sure it has power back. My seats are 6way. 1 two way switch for front of seat up down. One 4 way switch for back of seat bottom up/down and same switch for seat back forward or recline.
The motor is behind the headrest so the upholstery comes off. So I took the seat cover off and found the wire up to the motor had been crimped. It appeared to be fine but you could feel there was no wire making contact where it had been crimped. The worst part of this design is the fact that if there is a problem with the wire, you still have to remove the upholstery to access the motor side of the wires to test continuity of the wire.
