Speedometer
Speedometer drop to zero while cruising, restarted again, came back , after a while dead again, and restart ignition, it come back , please help and input suggestion , thanks car is 87 carrera 3.2 G50

I had same symptoms when voltage regulator (built into the alternator) gave out. Are your headlights changing intensity, by any chance?

Mine does the same thing. I reach up and tap it and it comes back.

My 87 did the same thing a few times before the odometer/trip stopped working. Sounds like it’ll be time to send it off to have it repaired.
Something to consider, paying a little extra for exact speedo calibration. CTopher |

Few years ago have gear issue , send to North Hollywood to fixed, , now pull out clean all connectors , will test drive later .

Don’t forget to check the connections in the tunnel at the rear access, between the seats. They are pretty robust, but it doesn’t hurt to check.

Check the tunnel wires and cleaned with contact cleaner, no luck , problem still exists, turn off restart speedometer work again, after a while stop again!

I had a similar symptom on my ‘87 G50 and the problem was tiny metal dust that had collected on the magnets inside the differential. While you may be able to clean all the magnets by removing the speedometer sensor attached to the differential and rotate the gear until the magnets align with the hole and then wipe the magnets clean via the opening, my tranny was already out so I removed the side cover which made access for cleaning easy.

It’s on the driver side, above the output shaft of the diff.
