Color of Fikse Fuch Replica and Singer Wheel Rims

Painting my Fuchs is the only option for me as the backside and the face side of the rims were gravel rashed beyond reasonable repair. Fortunately, the face lips remain in great condition for polishing. So I thought that I would save the day by replicating Fikse/Singer which would be suitable for my RST project build. I spend over two hours at my local body shop going through paint chips to try to match the color of the Fikse Fuch Replica and Singer rims. Not much luck getting even close to the Fikse web pic
Porsche Wheels | Corvette Wheels | Aluminum Wheels
Or the Singer per Excellence Magazine #188
I even tried by putting satin scotch tape over the paint chips to get the sheen off which helped a bit.
Anybody have any color suggestions or success getting a reasonable match?
Johan

Good point. Just looked at it but not quite right from what I can see although difficult to determine via the internet. I think that the Fikse/Singer has some silver metallic and the only comparable one from Wurth is the BMW wheel paint which of course is not right.

I have used Rustoleum wheel paint. Got it at Lowes. Not for my Fuchs but for everyday cars.

It is very good quality paint and has some metallic in it. Dries satin.

I sprayed the bottom of a can to show the density of the sprinkles. Who knows via digital pics if they match color wise.

Fiske wheels? Are you talking about the finish that they say uses aircraft grade Imron poly enamel?

You think that's better than Rustoleum on a beer can?

I just bought a pint of DuPont ChromaBase - $93 - Not red, green. Imron aircraft grade would put a hurtin' on you. Oh, plus you get to buy the hardener. I bet $300 out the door if you can find the formula. I say it's worth it if you can get the color match.

The Rustoleum is pretty tough stuff. Although, way, way down the food chain from Imron single stage.

I must admit that I know very little about paint beyond oil based and latex, so I can't answer your question on Imron enamel.
This is what I'm looking for, straight off the Fikse web site....

The silver flakes are smaller and less obvious, too me at least, than the Porsche silver used on my 997 lobster claws, or Audi and BMW. I would prefer to be able to identify a mass-production car with similar color.
Any ideas?

Bob, many thanks for taking the time to spray a sample of the Ruetoleum. I can't find it here in Canada so I may have to wait until I go to Hershey in April for the Swap meet. Nonetheless from the pic it appears similar but do the sprinkles look too grainy vs the Fikse pic?

the problem is, that the original "silver"-colour comes from the anodized surface of the aloy.
a natural "sealant" of the aloy-surface.
thsi can hardly be copied with paint.

but what I discovered that works well enough is, if you put some white on top of the base coating, then this white will "lighten" up your silver layer. of course, dont sprax too much silver, so it doesnt "kill" the shimmer of the white.

as silver I had good results with regular "rim-silver" (rattle can).
my first try with mercedes astral-silver (RAL 9735) kame out way too dark.

good luck!

Thanks Flo,
I literally just came back from the store with some cans of white and silver to experiment with, looked at my computer and saw your post. What a coincidence! I will try as you suggested and will post results.
Cheers,
Johan

My body shop mixed a color that I am happy with thanks to Flojo who suggested adding white. Don't know if the pic will show the real color but here it is. Sort of that light gray that appears on the inside of a tail pipe just after a hot session at the track with a bit of silver mixed in.
We'll see how it goes on the rims.

Tough to find a shop that'll shoot Imron anymore. EPA came down hard on it.
Imron is made for high-vibration applications. Find a shop that does Semi truck bodywork/paint.
