Wevo 915 shifter and PSJ adjustment Fore/Aft
I have just installed a Wevo shifter and PSJ on my 915 and got to adjusting the shifter when I found that I can not engage the lower set of gears (2, 4, R)
The back of the shift lever is hitting the shifter base and is just beginning to engage into the lower set of gears. It appears that the fore/aft needs adjusted with the coupling, but the coupling is already fully inside the front shift tube. (My assumption that moving the shift tube back towards the rear of the car will help move the shift knob further forward) There must be something I am missing because it looks the like shifter lever in 3rd gear needs to be moved an inch or so toward the front of the car to be able to engage the lower gears. Is there another point of adjustment? All my books/research talk mostly about rotational adjustment aside from the sliding the coupling in and out of the shift tube. Any help would be appreciated. Loosen the coupler bolt, slide the tube out of the shifter, look at which direction the shift knob is moving. Methinks you got it reversed.

DO you have the wevo adjustment instructions? The adjustment is completely different than stock. Basically you stick it in 3rd and put the shifter to the front of the car and center and tighted it up (IIRC).

I did begin to adjust in 3rd gear which is when I found the shift tube was hitting the rubber boot at the end of the spline on the coupler and I still wanted to push forward further before 3rd engaged.
Ill try to break it apart tonight and post up some pictures to see if I have something backward. Its most likely obvious.

Here is the shifter in Neutral
![]() You can see the space from in front of the shifter in neutral ![]() Shifter in 3rd ![]() Shifter in 4th(not engaged) ![]() Underside of shifter ![]() From the instructions, it says to put the shifter leve into the 3rd gear location and install on the shift tube. This shows about how far off the mount hole is when I put the shifter where 3rd gear should be. ![]() Here is the coupling. ![]() Any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks,

The shift rod out of the gearbox seems very long.
What year/model/engine/gearbox is the car? All original? Edit: btw the handbrake handle is 180° off. |

Are you sure to have the pin of the PSJ right in the hole on the gearbox axle ???

Yes, not original. I got the car about a month ago so I'm still confirming exact details but believe the engine to be from a '73 2.4 and gearbox to be a later model 915. The serial number on the shifter housing would indicate a second gen 915...maybe.
The stock short shifter was working fine before. I might replace it back in just to confirm the difference is not in the coupler to narrow it down.

Is the gearbox in 3rd? You have to move the shift rod from the transmission and put the gear box into 3rd gear. Which is hard with out a lever.
ALso you may need to find out when a later Gbox goes in an earlier car is there any issues to be adressed (as mentioned above). Did it work OK with the stock shifter?

Does this look like the stock end of a shift tube? Looks like it might have been modified previously. Im somewhat certain now that it is the tube length that is giving me the issues.

That shift tube (the one that comes from the shifter to the coupler) you show in the picture looks like it was cut off slightly uneven and had a slice cut in it. I dont remember mine looking like that. Maybe you could look at the PET and see what the end looks like or find a picture of one.

Well after some time, putting all the stock parts back in I found that the shift tube length is what was holding me up. The stock shifter work fine due to a combination of thinner shift rod, slightly more gap on the top shifter housing plate, and slightly shorter stock shift coupling.
I took a half inch off the shift tube and works beautifully now. Thanks to all for the help and guidance!
