Swapping out driver's side door

Hi all, I have a 1983 911 sc and need to R&R the driver's side door. I picked up a complete door at a dismantler that I plan on using. The only thing I have read about the process was that I will have to use an air chisel to remove the bottom hinge pin due to accessibility . I guess what I am most concerned with is the electrical hoop up. Is there anything special I should know. Thanks

Leave electric stuff in the door. Remove kick panel and follow bundle to where it plugs in. Unplug and it will come out through the door jamb hole.

I have never done this on a 911 but I did on an 86 944. On the 944 the connection was pretty high up in the front "firewall".

I have some tired pins on my driver's door so I will be tackling soon.

On the pins you can use a slide hammer and hook tool, or the official P tool.

As far as wiring goes, if all you have is power windows the connection is easy. With the door open, look into top top of jam above hinge, you will see doubled back harness held down by metal tab. Bend tab upward. As the door is pulled away reach in and unplug the round multi pin connector.

If you have power mirrors and stereo speaker you also need to disconnect these.

The power mirror connector is found inside the trunk near hinge area. It is nessecary to push out the grommets through the body to get the connector to pass through.

The speaker needs to be removed from door so wires can pull through as door is removed.

It all sounds a little intimidating. Just get a helper and take your time.

To get the mirror harness out of the door entirely it is nessecary to dis assemble the mirror and then using an electrical pin release tool push the pins out of the connector. (After labeling the connector with wire colors of course)

I have had doors on and off of a few cars.

On the door you picked up, take a look at the hinges. There is a small plain bearing/bushing insert. These wear and the door will sag.
Now is a great time to replace.
A little extra work and the new bushings MUST BE MACHINED/DRILLED TO FIT.
Threads here on Pelican about this.

Good luck with your swap!

Thanks for the help guys, all the wiring from the replacement door comes out from the door jam completely intact which means I just have to reconnect in the car itself . Are the connections from inside the car only accessible from the fire wall area or also from under the trunk lid too. Thanks

Power mirror harness passes through top of jam/hinge area into front trunk. Connection near hood hinge.

Power window connection is physically in the top of jam/gutter area, unplug the round connector.

The only wiring inside the car/underdash area is where audio wires pass through.
