Interior Light
I am trying to figure out the dome light. When I flip it back or forward, the light turns on and stays on, but if it's in the middle, it stays off even if I open the door.
I replaced the light itself and replaced the door switch but the problem still remains. I have 3 wires on my dome light if that helps. I've seen posts where people had a similar problem, but never could find the fix. Has anybody ever solved this one? |

Hi,
See if one of your wires is a switched ground. It would go to ground when a door is open. You then have a hot, a constant ground and a switched ground. The hot connection should be obvious. The other two connections give you two tries to get right. One way will work as you described, the other will work when you open a door. Good luck, Dave

Bottom line, it is not necessarily a fault that the light does not come on at all, as long as it does work in the other two positions. If you only get a light in one position, the fixture may not be grounded to the sheet metal due to some headliner material interference. Remove the light fixture and see if the metal prong on one end of the fixture makes contact through a hole/slice in the headliner. If you are saying the light stays on even in the "door switch" position, then you may have the wire from the door switch to the fixture connected to the wrong terminal in the fixture.
