959 sighting - oil fill door like '72?

Was at Laguna Seca last weekend for the Tudor sports car races and spotted this 959 in the paddock. I've seen 959s before, but never noticed that it has an oil fill door just like the '72...that is an oil fill door, right? And they thought the 959 was ahead of its time

On 72' cars it was a matter of weight distribution, it did not work as planned, they were putting gas in there instead of oil. On the 959 and some tuner cars(RUF) it was a matter of clearing space for the intercoolers and intake piping. On later cars aka 964/993 type it also was a matter of better weight distribution, sans the oil door of course.,cheers, Stef.

At least they got the gap better! Never understood why there's nearly double the gap vs anywhere else on the car.

Garage
I believe the 959 "Comfort" model had a door like that on each side. Driver's side was for hydraulic fluid.

Its kinda cool that the 72 has that small connection to the 959. Had never noticed that before. Thanks

I thought that was the access hole where one was supposed to top-up the supply of ground up unicorn horns?!
