1970 door handles

Can anyone help with this one? My 1970 911t has slightly different exterior door handles on the passenger vs drivers side - in one the door key hole runs vertical, the other horizontal. Which one is correct for this year, or does something just need adjusting?

My understanding is that having one vertical and one horizontal is correct. My '70 is the same. I remember a conversation about this on the sregistry site some time ago. I'm don't know the reasoning behind it.

Good grief. I must be weird. I've owned my 70 from new and it never occurred to me to check the door lock slots. Keys work, I'm good. Now I've got to go check out my door lock slots for proper alignment. Sigh.

Well guess what, both my door lock slots are horizontal. Since I am the original owner, I must assume the slots have had this orientation from the day it rolled out of the factory.

Having thoroughly researched the differences between a '70 and '71 911, the consensus is that the door key slots on a '70 are horizontal, whereas on a '71 they are vertical. Its possible that a very late production '70, or a very early production '71 would be different, as remaining/existing hardware from the parts bin was used. Or, if different slots, one of the door handles was replaced over the years.

Allen, would you know what was on the '69's? My '70 is a very early '70, built in October '69.

Based on many inputs on this forum. As Porsche transitioned from one model year to another, the factory would use up the remaining previous model year parts , or transition to the new year parts on a previous model year car.

Irish:

i forgot to mention something. In 1969 Porsche used a push button door handle. In 1970 MY they transitioned to the trigger style door handle.. Trigger style equals 1970 or later.
