Question stock headlight rim gasket question?

got new rubber seals for the headlight rims. question is how are they supposed to be oriented to the fender? there is a flat spot on both sides with it tapered in the middle. The rim does not seem to seat correctly. any ideas? 81'SC

the widest face of the rubber goes towards the back of the car, with the thin lip into the "notch" between headlight bucket and fender. It is possible to install them with the wide face to the back of the car and the thin lip to the outer front; just give it a flip. ( I had to look at the side I hadn't diassembled to figure this out). I'll try to e-mail a few pitures to you. Later, MAX

Well, I sure don't recall any thick or thin lips ... maybe it is just terminology!

What I do recall is a cross-section looking like a capital letter 'L' and in order to seat it properly at the top of the headlamp bucket ... the 'L' is placed upside down and backwards, with the base of the 'L' pointing outward toward the headlamp assembly. The long part of the 'L' is seated into the groove formed by the spot-welded flange and the fender.
