Diesel fuel as a part’s cleaner?

Has anyone heard of or used diesel fuel as a part’s cleaner? I’m getting ready to clean and rebuild my carbs, and someone (who I normally trust) suggested I soak them in diesel.

For bearings and CVs yes, I don't know about carbs.

Berryman's Chem-Dip ... rinse off with water, blow out & off with compressed air ... OUTDOORS! Been doing carbs that way for more than 35 years ... works well, but I advise using rubber gloves and wearing a charcoal-filter respirator ... even though it isn't quite as nasty as it used to be.

I like Berrymans too. Use the above items Warren suggested but also add an old toothbrush to the setup.

Oh and a bib.
