Anyone ever adapt a CIS gas tank to an MFI car?
I'm open to tips and suggestions! So far it is a pain in the ass.
The main feed on the CIS tank is bigger than the main feed through the chassis. So I got both sizes of fuel line; now I am trying to find some sort of plastic or metal "step-down" for the two sized lines. Any idea where one would find a metric fuel line adapter!? The other problem is the return line. The fittings are completely different on MFI and CIS tanks. The MFI return uses a banjo bolt setup like the cam line on the engine out at the cam; the CIS return uses a compression fitting like the cam line on the engine at the case. Frustrating! I rummaged around at my mechanic's shop until I found the right nut for the compression fitting, but I can't find a good-sized compression fitting for the nut. Again, any idea where I can find different sized compression fittings that have fuel line adapters on the other end?

got a 81 tank in my 73. space saver spare required. i also built a battery tray next to it, like an SC, for the single large battery, which required removing the left battery box, moving the fuse panel, and reshaping the side panel for battery clearance. also removed the right battery box so i could use an oil cooler in the fender. but the tank part is a bolt in.

How did you adapt all the fuel lines? I've got the space-saver spare and battery taken care of, but these fuel lines are driving me nuts.

![]() ![]() I came across this old (10 yrs+) thread and thought I would add a FYI for anyone in this same predicament. I was asked to make up Fuel Hoses for a fellow Pelican who wanted to Hot-Rod his 73.5 911 with a later 3.2 motor. He wanted to locate the Carrera Fuel Pump up front and fit a SC gas tank as his original was badly rusted. The original tunnel lines were steel and in good condition. However, pre 1975 911 models have no provisions to secure hoses in a high pressure application. ![]() Previously we have gotten in there with a Flare tool and used a custom Metric tube nut at the ends. That has been a difficult job given the tight confines and the size of the flaring tool. However, the end results were successful. For this application, I have been able to import Metric 8mm & 10mm cut-ring fittings from Germany, and can now make up crimped fuel hoses like this..... ![]() .....suitable for the hi pressures of a front mounted Fuel Pump. Since a SC gas tank was used, the hoses were made with matching fittings used with the original SC and Carrera. I am happy to answer any questions about this by email. Please do not PM me. Could someone post a picture of the location on the fan shroud for the air supply? I'm not seeing it on my SC and would like to make sure all the hoses are in place and in good condition

![]() ![]() Nick, this is the wrong thread. I would email you a photo of what you need but cannot unless you add your email contact to your info under your registered name. Please go back to this 911 Technical BBS and start a new thread. You can delete the post above by going to advanced edit. Len ![]() Last edited by BoxsterGT; 05-21-2014 at 10:34 AM.. |
