Help Identifyin CIS ECU
Good afternoon Pelican Brain Trust™,
Porsche 2 and I are trying to properly identify the MY for this CIS ECU. Bosch # 0-280-800-055. It currently resides in my 911 SC Targa that is 1981 model-year but 01/1982 manufacture date. Help? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1399841041.jpg |

See posts 3 to 7. I have an 81 targa and found an 055 ecu in my car (part for 81 was the 037 unit). This thread has a post that talks about the difference vs the 037 unit (not much). As another data point, the part number for the 037 has been superseded by the 055 which tells me you can probably use an 055 unit in place of an 037 unit. My car seems to run fine with the 055 unit. My car has Manf. date of aug 81. The 055 was for 82 and 83 as far as I know. |
How could a car manufactured 01/82 be a MY '81? That's not how it works. In general, the MY changes in September or October, and that holds true for most, if not all, manufacturers. (Actually, some change in August, and I once owned a MY '90 Audi that left the assembly line in May of '89, but it doesn't work the other way.)
On to your question. I think either ECU will work. There are differences in the harnesses, however, and the harness needs to match the engine harness. The Cap'n |
Cap'n, long time no chat. I assume a 1981 MY because it was titled as such. I've seen plenty of split-year shenanigans with P-Cars so I get what you're saying.
Anyhow, looks like the the 055 ECU is the right one for this car. That answers my question and hopefully Keith/Porsche 2's questions as well. Quote:

As cap'n wrote, your year model can't be. Check your door post sticker, it will give you the production month & year, and the year model will be the 10th digit of the VIN. A "B" indicates a 1981 car, and a "C" indicates a 1982 car.
