Forever Black - anyone used?

I'm getting ready to do a restore on the 78SC. I'm trying to decide how to restore the black plastic parts that have faded with time but are still good.
I saw Forever Black in catalogs and thought I would ask. Has anyone tried this stuff or know someone that did?

If this is the stuff that is a permanent dye, I tried it on some faded black trim and it came out very uneven. Perhaps it works with some practice and proper technique, but it's definitely not a wipe on-wipe off type product. And now my trim is permanently dyed unevenly.

I don't recommend it (assuming you're asking about the dye), but perhaps others have had luck with it.

Seem to remember that the best of these product types was changed and it was no longer very good. I am not sure which brand it was, but I do recommend you call the guys at http://www.carcareonline.com . They will get you the best product for the job.

You have to put several coats on. Used like shoe polish. Hard to get even if the rubber is old...must be done in shade. If you apply it right it will do an excellent job.
Looks great on my rubber...except it was more work on the tail which was a more weather beaten rubber (older I presume). However, it totally turned around the look ...put it on several months ago, and still looks great. Hard to get off paint so be careful. Definitely worth it though.

Not to worried about the paint, since all the rubber will be off when it gets stripped and painted again. I was mainly thinking about using it on interior plastic pieces, like vents etc.
Also might use it on the door mirror black pieces, since I can't find those for sale anywhere.
KurtB, did you try it on the "big" bumper guards?
The rubber I am keeping will be cleaned thoroughly and rubbed with some type of rubber revitalizer.

yeah, I put it on the bumper guards before I took them off. Clean em off, put it on them, and you'll see what I mean. It's very thin and easy to apply. Done in the shade, then after it dries look at it closely to see if it's even. The guy's right about trying to get it on even..takes a bit of work to get it perfectly. You can put a bunch on then use a rag to even it out where it's wet.

Surface must be clean and dry. Multiply coats. Works better when the surface has a little texture like the rear bumpers.

Use Mr. Clean Erasers before the application to clean.

Get them at the grocery store. Just the basic ones.

Used on the plastic cowl of a 325 BMW many years ago. To this day it looks like a new part.

From what I've read, it's best to hit the area with Griot's rubber trim cleaner first to prep the surface. Like any good product, it seems to be dependent on the prep work.

I'm looking to do this shortly on mine. I have both products ready, just need the time.

I used the 'Black on Black' spray stuff from Chemical Guys, and it worked great inside and out. All my rubber pieces were very faded, as was the rear decklid grill. Just make sure you use it in a well ventilated space!
