84' Shift coupler boot install !@#$%^&

Any body got a trick to get this rubber boot all the way in the tunnel.It slips on that sleeve in there about an inch and that's it. It needs another 2". I even used special really slippery lube and still no go. I am getting ready to trim it off.

I don't have a trick, but it took me a while too. I wouldn't trim it. Lord only knows what that boot keeps out...

I use two pick tools that have a right angle on the end. Put it over the bottom lip, use use each pick working up each side until you get to the top. I would not recommend using any lube as it will simply keep sliding off.

I got within 1/2" of the end of the sleeve but there was still 1 1/2" away from the outside flange so it got the trim. Worked fine at both ends. Old one didn't even go over the sleeve so I improved it.

I'm assuming this is the one (there are two) that slides over the output on the trans. I had to go under the car and make sure the skinny end was stretched over the trans and not just the shift shaft. Once that interference was out of the way it slipped right over the flange inside the tunnel. I used a zip tie to make sure it stays in place. -J

Do not trim it.

Jack the car, get under it, and start working it down over the trans output shaft. It just takes time,
