Replacing Headlight Assembly - Question
 

Good evening,

It's nice to be back and active in the forum. I won't bore anyone with the history of my p-cars other than today I have an 82 SC. I purchased it in 2001 and built it into a G-Stock Club Racer. It's been 5 years since I've been on the track and I've decided to pull it out of mothballs.

My plans are to actually unwind the full race-prep. I want to make it a car that I can drive on the street as well as still have a fun track day or autocross car.

In order to get it back on the street legally there are a few things I need to do. One of the items is to replace the passenger side H4 headlight seembly. It was removed and the bucket was cut open to allow air to dump directly onto the oiler cooler.

All I have on the right side is the painted trim ring.

My question is will this H4 assembly (Part Number: 0-301-800-101-M422) be everything I need for the passenger side? If so, I thought of purchasing it new as well as a new lens (Part Number: 911-631-927-00-M422) to match for the driver side.

Any feedback or advise would be appreciated.

I don't think putting the headlight in without the bucket is a very good idea. Without the bucket you'll have the back of the bulbs and the wiring exposed to water and other junk likely leading to problems. Perhaps you can get a donor bucket from an old fender and graft it onto your fender?

That's a good idea. I'm sure I can find a scrap bucket, cut it and weld into place. Or replace the whole bucket.

Now that I take a look at the picture again I see that just the back of the bucket is gone. Patching that shouldn't bee too hard. I also see that the tab at the bottom is still there so your replacement light assembly is all you need. Hopefully the original wiring with grommets are tucked away in the trunk or behind the bumper. If so it'll be plug and play :-). If you have tough time pulling the sealing grommets through the holes in the bucket just apply a bit of heat from a heat gun to soften the rubber.

Looks like you also need the rubber drain spout for the bucket. Our host has them.
