Who is the OE Manufacturer for Porsche wire?

This winter's project will be a complete interior refresh. And to this end, I am planning to replace a few of the wires in my dashboard which were scorched during a recent...ahem...uncontrolled combustion event. If it is at all possible, I'd very much like to replace the charred and melted wires with exact duplicates...color, gauge, etc. And if I can do this with individual wires instead of purchasing an entire harness, then that would be really cool. So does anyone know who supplies wire to Porsche?

Thanks,

It might be a bit hard to figure that one out. Most car manufactuters buy their wiring looms already made up by an specialist supplier.

Hello

Up to the 90´s the wires where supplied mostly from Lapp Kabelwerke in Stuttgart.
Wirelooms where made at Porsche and at Leonsche Drahtwerke.

There's probably only one guy who would know the answer to that question and he just answered it. Okay maybe two but Roland beat Warren to it.

How about hitting a dismantler and buying the wirelooms you need from them. Getting the exact year, so all the colors are right.
Just a thought.

I go to junkyards from time to time and buy the wiring harness out of a car they are getting ready to crush. Right color codes, sizes and has the connectors on it in most cases.

Costs a $15-20 but its well worth having the right wire and making it look like its factory over a cobbled up repair using wire from Pep Boys...

Do wires degrade with age? I know that replacing my 22 yr old ground wires with fresh new ones made a dramatic difference in the way nearly everything worked.

Janus,
Believe they do degrade due to heat and oxidation of the copper. Unless gold plated conductors are used, and better plastic insulators as well.

Cool

Janus...you may want to do voltage drop tests periodically on suspected wire connections...............Ron

Here's a guy that makes VW wiring harnesses. His are the de facto standard for repro harnesses; in fact, I don't know that any of his competitors have survives. Correct colors and everything.

Code:
Wiring Works - Bob Nodvik
2805 Kerckhooff Ave.
San Pedro, CA 90731
(310) 519-8147
He made a custom repro harness for my '54 RHD bus using the old one as a template, $300.

Tell him Thom sent ya.
