Beautiful green-ish 930 on northbound I-25 (Colorado) yesterday?
I passed you driving your green 930 yesterday and gave you a big thumbs up. Are you here on Pelican? Very cool car, nice shape. Thanks for hot rodding it a bit for our viewing pleasure! Nice to see you out there.
You were driving northbound on I-25, near Johnstown or thereabouts.

It was a friend of mine on his way home to Casper with his new 930! I'm pretty sure he's a member here - I'll let him know you saw him. He dropped in for a quick visit before continuing on. Pretty sure he got caught in a pretty decent thunderstorm right after he left here so the 930 was properly christened! Our cars are both Petrol blue but his has more of a greenish tint and mine is more blue. His is the one in back.

Hi Workhorse (and John)!
Thanks for posting. Yep, just picked up the 930 from Eisenbud's after a 3 month open check book mechanical and suspension run through. This is my first Porsche and so happy I held out for a 930. Ran like a champ for the 250 mile drive home and was grinning the whole time. My girlfriend caught up with me in Cheyenne and kept an eye out for our friendly Troopers. As John (LuftWaffle) said to me, "I'm not sure I'm mature enough to own this car." I echo this 100%!!! Workhorse, will have to meet up sometime. More on the car and pics in the coming weeks. Got a move underway so life is interfering with fun... Cheers, Bill |

I think this could tie right in with the why are these cars going crazy in value?
As owners when we see a fellow classic Porsche owners we it up and pay attention. I always wave like people do when they drive motorcycles. The biggest reason is these are not just cars they are smile machines and they make all of us as happy as a 9 yo kid shooting of fireworks. Porsche could install maturity gauges in these cars like the oil pressure gauge, the more you rev the engine lower you maturity gauge. At idle you are 60 yo old by the time you row through all the gears you are definitely 9, unless your engine or car is having trouble. |

I used Eisnebud's years ago without any issues. I wonder what happened to Gogar in his experience with them?
/5, sounds like fun, we will have to meet up sometime. You're moving from Casper to??? You could add more photos of your new ride for our viewing pleasure too :-) Super fun, glad you were out. Nice rig! Ross-

No, I caught the "just kidding" part. I just wondered if there was some underlying reason for him to say that. I suggested to Bill that he might take his car there based on Eisenbud's history but I don't have any first hand experience with them. Hoping I didn't steer him wrong...
They do look damn good together, don't they?! |

Just moving across town, but still a PITA...I did manage to go out to the garage a few times yesterday just to admire the lines of the car and start taking inventory of what still needs to be done.
To share a bit about the car, it's a 1980 930 with 99k showing on the odometer, Petrol blue, with blue sport seats and interior. No rust, or accident damage. I looked at quite a few 930s and liked the lack of power seats, the hand welded flares and floating rotors, etc. of the earlier 3.3s. Had i the means, i probably would have tried to buy an earlier yet non-intercooled car. I found this particular car in Denver and made a deal back in February. It went immediately to Jim and John at Eisenbuds and I gave them the go ahead to sort the car out and fix whatever needed doing. Normally I'd like to try to tackle as much as I can myself, but I simply don't have the time right now. Secondly, this is my first Porsche, and while I did a frame-off restoration of an MGA about 11 years ago, I am entirely new to these cars and don't have the knowledge base yet. I'm still scarred from my MGA experience, which dragged on well over two years. I don't have the personality to do a little here and there; it became utterly all consuming. I vowed I wouldn't get into that situation again--living in the hinterlands of Wyoming, I wanted to get the car back in top running shape, leaving only small bite-sized projects to tweak. I caught the joking emoticon too, but lest anyone get the wrong notion, as far as I can tell, Eisenbuds did exactly what I asked of them and they have earned my ongoing business. They're kinda gruff at first encounter but like a surgeon with crappy bedside manners, I could care less-I just want the work done right. If I could quibble a bit, I do wish they had done even more. As we have a very short driving season; however, I was anxious to have the car back and told them i needed it by the time warm weather rolled around. I will drive it 'til first snow and then go about continuing to bring it up to top standards. As far as a litle more in the way of first impressions...the fastest car I've had before now was an E39 540, although I've spent a lot of time on sport bikes. Frankly I had never driven a 930 before buying this car and my notions of what it would be like were entirely informed by Internet reading. While waiting to get it, I had reservations about how it would end up being "too much car" or that I wouldn't really like it enough to bond with it. I'm glad to say after just 250 miles that I LOVE this car. The slingshot effect when it comes on boost is very reminiscent of the acceleration felt with a quick bike. The feel is visceral and raw and I smelled a little gas and oil on myself when I got home. The build quality is awesome and the value for the money is huge even at the higher prices these cars are recently bringing. |

Damn glad to meet you....
Welcome /five
What an interesting introduction to Pelican in both the fine write up and the way Workhorse introduced you to us. Thanks for the pictures. Seems that you have a particularly virulent strain of the sickness up there in Wyoming! I can tell from several cues in you introduction, the "all in" philosophy, biker roots and love of the visceral kick in the a$$ from your Turbo that you'll fit in well with this crowd. No one will hold the MGA against you, though I rarely talk about it, I started with a Triumph Spitfire. ![]() You've obviously done your reading and research so you are well aware the dangers of lifting in turns and the surprise and thrill of the sudden on boost, so as the Brits say "happy motoring and keep the expensive end out of the hedge". I for one look forward to the pictures and stories that will come as you bring that beautiful car up to spec and learn her secrets. Again, welcome. Scott

Piece in current Panorama about why these things are starting to spike. Glad I bought the SC 12 years ago. Now if the body shop could just finish the paint and get it back together
