Macan- Has Anyone Driven or Even Seen one Yet?
 

I know this is the 911 bbs, but there isn't one for the Macan yet, and the Macan is being marketed as more of a sportscar akin to the 911 than an SUV, I thought I would risk asking here. Has anyone driven one yet? Seen one in the flesh? I saw one this weekend at the Porsche Dealer at Tysons Corner Virginia this weekend, both parked and on the move, but I was not able to drive it because it had already been sold.

I have to say, it looks very good. No, it is not a 911, which is without question my favorite car on the planet, but it looks like it's all business. Very muscular. Even the dual exhaust pipes are manly looking. It sounds great too, not too different from the growl of the 991. Very nice indeed.

And because Macan means "Tiger", a name still copyrighted by Chrysler from the days of the Sunbeam Tiger (my "other car", which I sold recently after years of adoption and restoration...I like it! SmileWavy

Here's a couple I've seen driving a few wks ago... They're from the factory, judging by the license plates. They look nice in the flesh and the Turbo makes a nice rumbling noise...

I understand these cars fund the cars such as GTx, RS(R), 918, 919, ... and if I could afford it, I'd probably own one as a daily driver.

I've seen the demo Macan Turbo on track at Spa-Francorchamps during the Porsche Days last week, it was very impressive!
Overtaking GT3 RS in the wet at Eau Rouge / Raidillon, probably related to who was driving as well but still ...!

The dealerships around here are flooded with them.

With a lot of them with "sold" signs on them already.

I think they look better than the Cayenne.

They'll sell a ton of them, for sure. Lots of the ones I saw were S models at around $52,000, which is cheap for a new Porsche (regular Carrera S's are $125,000, etc.).

I think the Macan Turbo looks much better than the S. You can see a lot of the areas where costs were cut on a lightly optioned Macan S.

I have not seen them in our town.

I suspect that the local dealer which can only sell 911/Boxster's during the fair weather months doesn't want to get stuck with his stock/allotment of sports cars this season and will push the Macan in the fall and winter months heavily.

I was at a PSDS program at Barber Motorsports last week where they had just finished a couple weeks worth of dealer introductions to the Macan. There were 17 of them there and they used one to demo a lane-change exercise for us. It looks great, sounds nice and felt quick and balanced during the hard left-right-left with four aboard. Add a couple of Porsche bells and whistles, and this thing will be at $90 grand in a heartbeat.

i will be taking delivery of mine in july i cant wait. i test drove some of the ones they had on the showroom floor but i needed to get it the way i wanted it. so i ordered it.

I saw one in the German dealership here for 104 000 €.

Seen them too, an impressive Q5. Looks as boring as any other premium car out there.

Currently everyone is sold and from what I hear there is almost a year wait time for one if you go to the dealer today.

Local dealer had 7 (6 Macan S and 1 Turbo). All sold in one day - except one. They need it for the local unveiliing - this Friday. My sales guy told me to stop by anytime to drive one.

My wife wants me to get one after the lease on my 991S runs out next year. So - I guess thats not all bad

Drove a turbo s this past weekend for about 12 miles around the local reservoir, and also a cayenne diesel. The macan was nice, but I didn't get the feeling I would want from it - not involved enough and it felt a bit more isolated from the road than the cayenne.
I really liked the cayenne diesel a lot - of course it costs a lot more, too!

That's not a fair statement, Magnus. The starting point of the platform of the Macan is the same as the Q5, but it only shares 15% of the parts of the Q5. That's the raw, objective truth. The Macan is as much a Q5 as an Audi A5 is a VW Golf, IMHO. Everyone has a right to an opinion, of course, but I think the Macan looks really beautiful. Porsche really succeeded in making a sportscar into something like an SUV.

I'm (right now) ripping my face off trying to decide what car to get as a daily driver. It's the 991 in first place, but with a one year old and a three year old, the Macan is beginning to win the fight between pure emotion and emotion tempered with a good dose of logic.

Pretty sure I read in Panorama yesterday that they share 30% of parts.

My recollection of the same article is that 85% of the content of the Macan is not shared by the Q5. I just turned it around to say that 15% is shared because it makes a bigger impact that way in my mind.

I've faced that dilemma with the kids (before the Macan came out however). I've been really pleasantly surprised by my decision to try an Audi S4. Just tossing it out there in case it saves you from ripping your face off ;-) I wouldn't mind a Macan for my wife though, so I can borrow it.... I just cannot commit to an SUV for *everyday* driving yet... (I'm hoping the time when the kids grow up and can belt themselves corresponds with the end of the Audi CPO warranty ;-) Then it's 997 Mk2 for me. (surprisingly though, I will miss that Audi)

It is from my standpoint. It is a really nice CAR, but beautiful, no!

I don't doubt that its both a very good daily driver, that outperforms most cars.
I dont't doubt that it outperforms many cars on the track, but its NOT a sports car, its to high and has to many doors. A sports car is made for ONE purpose.

I can't stand this badge engineering. We are lucky that the 911 soul is in the rear engine concept, otherwise the 911 would probably be souped up VW/Audi by now.

I'll buy that! :) I'm just grateful they made it because it will allow me to maintain my brand loyalty at a time that reality makes it hard for me to drive just a 911.

BTW, I would have a hard time choosing between a used 997.2 and 991. For me the 991 has the edge if only because it has a LATCH system for child seats in the rear. I can't find a 997 with these installed. Strangely, my 2003 996 had LATCH in the rear. Why would they have jumped the 997? Strange and frustrating.

I'd go for the 991 if money wasn't an issue. Its a huge car but better and better looking. Still not beautiful... ;)

But I have a hard time finidng any car beautiful...
