ok I guess no one is too familiar with this style alt too...
I did find this out so far with help from Glenn @ Pelican Parts sales whom is a GREAT GUY AND A TON OF INFO ON ALL PORSCHES...ESPECIALLY THE EARLY CARS AS HE HAS 1 OR 2...
Anyway, on 1 spot of the front winding I saw "SEV" = a marchal/motorola type alternator...770w output...the correct p/n for this alt is 911 603 120 06 and it is discontinued...and it has a seperate external voltage regulator mounted on the elect bd in the engine bay...
I am going to see if the external volt regulator fixes the no charge condition or if i also need to find a rebuild shop for the alt or possibly convert over to the only avail pelican part which is a Valeo unit w/ built in volt reg...Glenn is concerned (now i am) that it may not fit this early car...so...
Can anyone recommend a shop for rebuilding alternators...? maybe on east coast but if it is west coast that is fine too...?
thx, bob

Wish I could help, but the shop that rebuilt my original alternator is no longer around.
The 70 amp rebuilt one Pelican offers seems to be a match though.1973 Porsche 911 T Coupe/Targa - Charging System & Battery - Page 1

Bob, wheee are you located? There are a couple of places in the Northern VA area, Arlington Armature and Artie's Auto Electric. I've used Arlington Armature for my Marchal and am satisfied with the results. Local folks who I trust have said Artie's is very good, and I will probably use them next.
