What a beauty!!

You need to see a doctor :)

Looks great. That is one clean engine.

But sorry for asking. Why did you paint the fan AND pulley, shim and nut? Easily reversible though.

What is the Bosch 6 plug coil from? Does it have internal drivers? Im trying to decide on COP, Coil near plug or other options for my rally build...

They are powdercoated.... However, on the fan, between the pulley halves and where the shims are located are NOT coated.... Just wanted something different...

That is one sexy looking engine there Brad! We need to have a City Court parking lot rally! Like the Heuer sticker.

MikeD930 05-22-2014 04:27 PM

Wow...you are plain nuts in regard to the beautiful engine. Super nice job. I hope you can figure out the problem with the signals easily. In your second posting who own the yellow car? At first I thought you repainted your 930 from black to yellow. What a teaser. Ha.

I can say that I've helped out a SMALL bit on this project and I get to drive this frikin' beast!! Over the past several years, Brad and I have become very good friends, since meeting him at that first PCA meeting. One of the best people I've met in so many ways and aspects. I'm grateful and proud to "call" him my true friend. Yeap,..stories to tell, indeed. Aside,.........

That fkr' had me sit in the passenger seat with the laptop as we flashed a buddy's program into the G4,....he was like a pilot conducting preflight checks as we worked through ALL of the settings, checking each detail. We got to the point to giving her a crank up (first time, mind you). She try, everso briefly, having experience a dead gell battery. We laughed about it,...I told him I thought it was a sign or omen of sorts. He has since been pressing forward with checking a boatload of things.

Fuel pumps work fine in solo test with software but no-go in the cranking mode. Clearly there was concern about having proper signals from the 2 noted sensors. He later told me that he had worked on several circuit/wiring elements, later having her come up albeit (still) shortly and that the software was seeing the signals. Albeit short-lived and she returned to a no-start condition (wearing a brand new gel). Haven't been to see Brad lately as work has been "Dantes Inferno", however we speak quite frequently.

This lowly Engineer owns a broken o'scope and hasn't been able to get one from friends for one reason or another. Quite obvious that we look at those sensors' outputs. At first, it was stated that they both were hall-sensor varieties (VERY expensive ones) but later discovered they the crank sensor is not. It's a reluctor,..but, still, an output is an output,..be it square wave or sinusoidal. I do believe Brad is simply going to buy one,..probably already has.

This guy has taught me a lot when it comes to the mechanical side of the house. A superior cynic (like me),......great sense of humor (like me),......always wears a big-arse smile (unlike me) and loves music (like me). Cannot wait to see where this thread goes, knowing there are so many Pelicans out there who could help cut straight to the chase with assistance. I can't think of a more deserving human being who is truly gratious.

Here's a pic of us getting ready to take my '89 north to the painters' shop about an hour and 1/2 away. He was the LAST person to drive my car, in fact. He also took liberty of the Merc on the way home. She has twin turbos on her and he didn't frik around when it came to using them..:D

BEST!

Here's another few shots while up at Petite a few years back.....Brad would always bring his travelodge or whatever the frik he calls it and park in his yearly reserved spot at one of his favorite turns. Man,..what a blast.....http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1400806534.jpg

Pauter rods? They look like Carillos....

I hope you get it up and running and all goes well!

x98boardwell 05-22-2014 05:14 PM

Doyle, nice message! I didn't get a chance to meet you when I was there (unless I'm blanking...) but I know you have helped out a ton so thanks from a far!! Cheers, Bryan

dshepp806 05-22-2014 05:49 PM

Brad has spoken (highly) of you, including your Porsche!!! I'm quite sure we haven't met and look forward to doing so. Your bro' and I have a nice history of great concert appearances,..especially on the front row!!!!!

I'm off to locate an o'scope so that we may "display" something.....considering his crank sensor is a reluctor,...looks like we'll be looking at sinusoidal waveforms (if we're lucky....). I'm no mechanic and surely don't know all that Brad knows. He's a very patient teacher. Still, I'll get the opportunity to explain to him about the circuitry that converts it to square waves.

Great find,..this brother of yours'. Very genuine, straight-forward gent,.....I know it's gonna' be a good day in his multi-bay garage when I pull up and hear Moving Pictures playing......

Best to you,

Doyle

turbobrat930 05-22-2014 06:06 PM

Damn Doyle!! Thanks for the kind words good friend!!!! You are definately family!! Hopefully, we can get this sensor problem fixed shortly... we are BOTH in need of some serious "road" therapy!!! and a trip up to see your baby!!!!!

RarlyL8 05-22-2014 06:09 PM

Jeez Brad you lost your mind on that engine! We should have polished the headers so they would fit in with the rest of the bling!

BRIAN!!!!! I had to make an engine worthy of your headers!!!!! Cant wait to hear how this thing sounds!!

Hope you are doing well..... I think I need to put some break in miles on her... maybe a weekend jaunt and lunch near your place!

turbobrat930 05-22-2014 06:21 PM

I also need to thank several people for their help, guidance, patience, and friendship... without these folks... NONE of this would have been possible.....

Don (DonE), Craig & Andrea Taylor, Brian (RarlyL8), Mike Bruns, JB Racing, Chris Carrol (TurboKraft), Serge de la Bruyere, Doyle (DShepp806), Bryan Boardwell (x98boardwell), Brian Anderson (AnderFab), and a host of other people who have jumped in, stopped by, brought beer, etc....

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!

x98boardwell 05-22-2014 06:53 PM

Quit thanking people... get that damn thing running!!

Great to see Brad.
So clean and nice. Well done :-)
Are you going to map both gas and E85?

Looking forward at your dyno results :-)

Give my regards to Don when you speak with him.
