911 Targa Roll Hoop
I have a 1974 targa thaT has the roll hoop painted black. I want to take it back to the classic brushed aluminium look. I'm told that it is actually steel underneath and that it needs to be sealed, but that you can't do this with clear. Does anyone have advice how I can get that brushed aluminium look?
Many thanks Ketchp |

The bar is stainless steel not aluminum. I'd think you only need to strip it and polish or buff to the finish you want. Mines an 87 and painted black as all were from about 74. Striped down on early ones with chrome or polished aluminum trim to match looks great.

so being stainless steel do you think I can just leave it as bare metal. The shop guys are telling me that it needs to be sealed with something which seems odd??
Thank you |

Black Targa bar to Silver... Refinishing Targa Bar Cover...HELP ! I understand The Targa bar stainless steel does not need "sealing". But, I guess, it depends on the stainless steel grade. Maybe it is discussed in the links.

I did this last spring. Its an easy job to do in an afternoon or two. I could have saved a lot of time by choosing the correct abrasive the first time. I ended up too much shine before I figured out how to give it that brushed look. Finally got a hold of some synthetic steel wool and used long straight strokes and now it has a great looking brushed finish.
