G50 Shifter Remounting/Raising
Hi Peeps,
i ran into a problem with my Hargett G50 shifter and some new Sabelt seats. The sides are quite high and wide and almost preclude proper shifting. I elected to move the shifter up and closer to the dash/wheel. While there are some aftermarket boxes one can buy that do this, after considerable gazing i came up with a good solution. I used a short section of sturdy aluminum I-beam, bolted to the tunnel using the pre-existing shifter holes. Then just bolt the hargett unit on top and run the rod into the coupler. Its quite sturdy, but i also included a welded on tab on the cage knee bar which i can fasten the shifter housing to with a short metal support plate. (not shown in pic because i have not fabricated it yet). This is literally a 50-75 buck setup and you can order a piece of I beam online . Moreover the indentations on the I beam allow access to the seat mounting bolts on the tunnel side of each seat . Hope this might help someone.. ![]() ![]() pics before and after: ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Holy crap,that is high ...
I mounted a Hargett last year in my car and the only issue i had is that once you're strapped in with a Hans, you can't see the shifter and it takes some getting used to the feel of it ! I think in your case you resolved that issue, although i think that the whole benefit of the Hargett shifter was to bring it closer to the driver ! Cheers Phil
