Would you change out the fuel pump if....

......you were doing a turbo tie rod and bump steer project and had CIS/idle issues?

The reason why I ask this question is because I bought a fuel pump last year and it is just sitting around. I bought this pump after my fuel pump was making a loud whining/singing noise after I ran Techron through the fuel system. I thought the system crud was tearing up the pump, but the noise went away after a short time.

I do have CIS issues and idle issues, so I thought, while I am in there, change out the pump.

I would, and then save the other one for an emergency spare, if you have an empty or close to empty tank.

You already have the pump and you'll be working in the area, so what the heck. Of course you now have fuel and the mess and safety precautions to deal with as well.

FP replacement.........

Bill,

If you have a new FP, it would be prudent to install it now and have the old one as spare. But if it is not new, I would not bother this time to replace what you have. Unless you could confirm it to be defective or bad. Then replace it. What CIS problems are you having now? Keep us posted.

Tony,
Same old idle and running rich issues. I bought a pressure test kit and plan to test it soon. I also bought an entire CIS unit for spares. A project for cooler weather, as I just find it hard to take a Targa out of service during the warmer months.

My incident with the deer has me catching up on a few projects.

Reasearching a few threads here I am learning that the new FP are junk compared to the original pumps. It might be easier to test pressures before diving into that project.

Porsche Crest

I suppose as a "while you're in there" it might make sense, but its a really easy swap out on its own.

Bill,

I have atleast six (6) used FP's (made in Germany) and a new FP still in the box (made in Germany). Have not used the ones made in Asia or else where. Pressure test the new FP before using it.
