85 Carrera Sunroof electrical

Hi All

Having some problems with my 85 Carrera Sunroof Electrics. And I need an electrical schematic or one line to diagnose.

Here is what I know. Opened the sunroof, went to close it and no go. used the tool kit to close the sunroof manually and later verified that I can open and close it manually. So it does not seem to be a mechanical issue.

Yes, I verified the fuse and the switch under the Fuel Guage.

The issue is, I have a different set of wires coming out of the switch than the wires that go to the motor.

Also, is the motor 12 v or is it stepped down.

Any suggestions would be helpful.

Check for power at the motor 12v + - when you actuate the switch. If there's power then the motor is bad if no power then check power to the switch if there's power then it's the switch.. If you need a motor I have one in good shape. They're not stepped motors just geared down.

I had a very similar problem, also in an '85. Very frustrating to try to figure out but after chasing it with a multimeter it turned out to be the connector at the motor. If you unzip the headliner it's tucked up in there. Just cleaning the connector wasn't enough. I had to gently deform the male prongs just a bit so they got a tighter fit. Has worked perfectly ever since.
