Engine Rebuilder
 

Has anyone had, or come across, an engine rebuild from the Paul Weir company from Seattle? I don't think they are around any more but I'm curious as to what people would think of engines that are around with one of these rebuilds.

Seriously he's one of the most respected Porsche experts in the country. Now out of business. Maybe to return? Look for his 962 parts on eBay.

We're new to the porsche world and the 79 targa we bought had a $6K rebuild from there about 17k ago. I had found several references to Weir but since I could find any direct links anymore (I understand out of business for now) it was had to tell. The sales booklet included in the rebuild documentation was quite impressive.

To be 'one of the most respected in the country' makes me feel pretty good at the $10.5 purchase price.

Well, I DON'T want to rain on your parade, but I live in Seattle, and had my 930 engine done while Paul was still in business. I didn't choose Paul.

I think, generally, that Paul's shop did good work, for a assembly-line type engine rebuilder. If I had had to choose, I'd certainly would have chosen a Paul Weir engine over a Motor Meister engine, for example.

But I could rattle off a few names from accross the country that I think most would acknowledge are a cut above Paul's shop across the country. Several of them are mentioned in Bruce Anderson's 911 Performance Handbook...

A pelican member who worked with him at one time is on the forum from time to time.

Believe that his name is Eric and uses "freefly" and you might try to get ahold of him. He knows a lot about the shop and projects there and might be able to help you.

Thanks for the info. I'm not really looking for any specific info on the rebuilder, just kind of doing a history lesson on our 79 targa. Since there are about 20 pages of docs on the rebuild it makes it one of the easier things to study. I can say from a "newbie to aircooled" point of view the car pulls strong and doesn't smoke at all. And it did a track event with air temps above 100 (the car did better then the drivers with the heat in general). So far we seem to definately be getting back our 10k spent for the targa in driver satisfaction.
