Valeo Voltage Regulator

I just ordered a replacement Valeo volage regulator for my 86 Carrera from Pelican. It arrived in a green Valeo box. The regulator has part number H640437A Made in China stamped on it. The box has a sticker with W082-00N Made in France. I am pulling the alternator to replace my cracked fan housing and thought I would change out the voltage regulator as preventative maintenance as it has 45000 miles on it. The original alternator was replaced at 45000 miles. Now I am wary of replacing the regulator with something that is "Made in China" and possibly not a real OEM part. The fact the the box says made in France and the actual regulator says Made in China is to me a little misleading.

Any thoughts......

I agree not fixing something that is not broke but..........these alternators are known to only last aprox 50000 miles. I believe it is usually the internal regulator that fails as it heat soaks every time the engine gets shut down. The original alternator on my car failed at 45000 miles (right on cue) and was replaced by the previous owner. The car now has just over 85000 original miles. I am concerned that the voltage regulator may be on its last legs and perhaps should be changed with an OEM unit while i have the alternator out to replace the fan housing.

I ordered a "NEW" Valeo alternator from a vendor on Ebay. It showed up with a crack in the housing a bent mounting bolt. It also had the "made in china" regulator. Needless to say I have sent it back. Has anybody had any experience with the K3 Bosch alternators for a 911 3.2? I am considering installing one when I replace the fan housing.

Thanks

Just checked the local Porsche dealer online. Price for the OEM voltage regulator 91160391301 from Porsche, $80.30

Considering the work involved..that's not a bad price.

For whatever it's worth here, the voltage regulator and the alternator must be from the same manufacturer.

IIRC it was that was for the very early 911.

Do the alternator and VR have to be matched??

If your year model came with this decal, then I think the answer is yes.
