There is a chart that our host has in the odometer gear section of the parts catalog.

This one: Porsche Odometer Gear Reference

It does not list a 1980 Rest Of World 911 but that gear is the only mile version in your vintage so if it does not fit (20 and 30 teeth) you are screwed anyway.

I bet they would take it back if it is not the right one.

I have an '80 RoW and I just replaced mine. I can't remember what the tooth count was though! It is not the same as the US. I bought a US one and it was not correct, so I counted the gear teeth and bought the correct one.

Josh,

Do you remember the color of the plastic gear? The OP needs to order it right away and have it shipped to IL before Saturday (June 7) to make it to Europe.

Tony

Let me go to the website to see if it sparks my memory.

There were two options:

20/32 US
20/22 Euro

I initially tried 20/32 and it did not work. So it must be 20/22. I do remember the inner gear being much smaller than the US gear, so the 22 tooth count sounds about right. My speedo does have 0-150 mph face plate and it is accurate.

Hope this helps!

Porsche 20X22 tooth gear is all it says on my receipt (2/11/2010). No part number listed.
This was what I put in my 79 Euro. Purchased from Odometer Gears LTD. before Pelican had them available. I think it's the same company that Pelican gets them from.

Good luck on the rebuild.
Mine stripped last year, and it was so tricky to count the teeth or lack of.
VDO needed to switch cog suppliers.
