Disconnecting wiring w/ door removal
I'm planning to re-bush my drivers door on my '82 911SC. I've researched the forum and found various techniques for removing the pins, bushings, and reinstalling and reaming the bushings and inserting the pins.
Since I have power windows, power mirror, and speaker wiring in my driver's door, is it easiest to remove the door card (RS door card) and disconnect the wiring there, or, are there connectors accessible on the car that will allow the wiring to be pulled away with the door? Thanks, John |

I pulled a door on a 944 a few years back. I pulled the kick panel off and followed the wire bundle up under the dash and there was a connector there that I unplugged. Probably close on the 911.
I just saw a video on replacing pins on a GMC Yukon where it was mandatory to remove the door for the procedure. What they did was to hang the door in the air using an engine hoist while the wires were still connected. Pulled it away several inches and did there thing and moved the door back to the hinges.

If it were me I would take the door card off and disconnect the wiring there. I suppose you could disconnect under the dash but you will have to take the seats out and I generally hate lying on my back in the car and working under the dash.
Somebody (maybe it was nineball?) made a jig out if 2x4s to hold the door using a floor jack so he didn't have to disconnect the wiring. If you do that just make sure you pad it to protect the door from getting scratched. |

The power window plug is in the top of door jam. Easy to unplug as you pull door away.
When you open the car door, this is the visible harness at the top above hinge. Held in the little gutter/nook by a metal tab. The power mirror harness is easiest disconnected in the trunk. Round multi pin connector. Push it and the rubber grommet outward. For the speaker wiring, pull the door panel and disconnect at speaker. You will want a work stand or padded table near by to set the door on upon removal. Much easier to do the bushings that way. Cooper |

A helper is a good idea too.....door is heavier than you think and it can get a little frustrating trying to hold too many things and loosen bolts, deal with dangling wires, etc. I just did both doors on my SC....it's very satisfying to get'em back on and they work like they did back in '82 ![]() |
