How much oil in my 3.2?

I've got the engine out of the car as as such I've drained the tank and the sump. I know you can only check the oil when the car is running at normal operating temp at tickover on level ground.

So how much oil will I need to put back in the car once the motor is back in it? IE. I assume ther will be some in the pipes/front cooler and I don't want to put 11 liters in only to find i've over filled it. How can I check from cold? I can't accuratly dip it till it's been running for a while. Is it just guess work?

Regards
Richard

It contains 13 liters overall. At an oil change you usually have 2-3 liters left in the system. Start filling 10 liters in the car then start it and let it warm up.

Would I be best draining the front cooler?

Is 10 L's going to be enough to let the car warm up? I don't want to do any damage obviously. Will I see oil on the dip with 10L's in the car?

Regards
Richard

would be better but not easier
nothing dangerous will happen if there's "only" 10 liters

You can run your car on far less than 10 l. I would throw 9 in at the most, get the car warmed up and then start measuring. This weekend I changed my oil, while the car was still quite hot and even jacked up the right side of the car to get every last drop I could out of the case drain. In the past I remember it taking about 10-10.5 qts. This time I threw in 10 qts., got it nice and hot and it was exactly at the midlevel between the tick marks. Don't worry about underfilling it. Just make sure you do, in fact, fill it before you start it.
