Question What is special about the 911T

Okay I have done some research on 911's and I know the difference between the 912, 911S, 911SC, 930 but I don't know much about the 911T and as I am shopping around I see a few of them for sale. So what was special about the "T" model?

Thanks

Scott,

The 911T was the base 911 model from the '68 model thru the '73 model year.

Actually not much.
The T is the lesser of the E & S models.
It has a tamer cam and a lower red line, less HP but still a fun ride.
And can therefore be picked up cheaper.

The only real negative is that the parts cost the same as an S but the car will never attain the same value. So sometimes repairs will not be sanctioned by your accountant.

A non-sunroof T coupe is an awesome starting point for an "R-Gruppe" type of project.

You might want to ask Vic Elford about that - here's his Monte Carlo Rally winning T! (look closely at emblem on deck lid). -- Curt

Curt, That's a great picture and I can see how a "T" could have been a great rally car, but something tells me that this car might have been "tuned" a little.

The 'T', by virtue of not having the so called luxry options, was lighter and therefore the base of Porsche competition projects.

From the humble 'T' were spawned the utterly desirable 'ST' competition variants as well as the lightest ever 911 - the one used on the 'Tour de France' in (I think 1972).

Had the T been available some 200 years earlier, I'm sure Marie Antionette would have said "Let them drive T''s."

Scottmandue, you don't want one...they're awful...there's plenty of better 911's...

OK, I think I got rid of the competition...now I can go back to my search for one

Thumbs up

Thanks guys,
I am leaning more towards the 78-83 SC model, just wanted to make sure I was mot missing out on something.
Then again there is also something attractive about the simplicity of the pre smog years.
