On first glance the unit is nicely constructed and looks better than the prototype.
I will get set up and test it out on a spare 6 pin cdi I have and report back.
(Once I find my coil.. GRRR)
Find that Coil!!!

Not sure he has tested the model I sent. I have continued test prototypes here, and have done a model that produces a square wave signal at a single frequency that is the equivalent to 2000 RPM.

Also have one with 3 RPMs 1000, 5000 and 10,000 with a rotary switch. And a similar with a variable resistor adjustment.

these would market at different price points in that the variations have more components.

For basic testing the single frequency is fine.

I aim to market one or 2 versions, but at this point I am not sure of demand. Any feedback would be appreciated.

I'm sorry, I have not been able to test it as I cannot locate my spare coil right now and I need the one in my car.
Will any old coil work? I have one from a '69 GM, just don't want to blow it up with too high a voltage.

OK in the time it took from my last post to this one I set it up on my 6 pin cdi, used an old GM coil and spark plug and ran the tests.

2 different intensity sparks for 2 different frequency inputs. Added benefit is I now know my spare CDI works.

It Lives! (darn good spark for that dirty old plug!) Great tester...

Thanks Dennis. Do you have a photo of the test setup?

You mention the trigger signal is reversed, would that mean that the dwell is the remainder of 60 -xx. For example a 1972 dwell i think is 38 with a cdi. Would we then set up msd dwell to 22?

Dwell is not important for the simulator. The 3-pin CDI will release its spark at the exact moment when the points open. The simulator most likely has an IGBT or MOSFET that switches on and off with at the given frequency and a certain duty cycle. Once the device turns off the spark is triggered regardless of whether the duty cycle of the signal is 60/40 or 40/60.
