Help! I am a frustrated engineer that has wanted a Porsche for years. I finally found a basket case 912e three years ago but the engine needed work and, alas, I like a little more HP. I recently installed a '83 3.0 liter and the installation went fine. Unfortunately, the car starts but won't keep running. It runs about 3 seconds, then dies. It has the correct fuel pump (new), correct wiring harness and brain, but just won't keep running. The engine was running good when pulled from the '83.

My first guess would be the engine is running off the "cold start valve" fuel. (the one injector that sprays into the manifold, while the starter-motor is engaged.) So checking the fuel-distributor may be in order.
I believe there are a few posts here on checking the injectors /fuel-distributor for proper function. -->search.
