Felony Charges just filed

It was just announced by a County Prosecutor that felony charges are being filed against 2 gas stations in Missouri that gouged on gas prices on Tuesday. Penalty would be 5 years in prison and $5,000 fine. County Prosecutors in Kansas are expected to file charges tomorrow against 3-5 more stations for "egregious" pricing. I love it!

What prison are they going to send the gas stations to? Will they be rehabilitated when released? How about time off for lower prices.

Sorry couldn't resist.

Kevin

P.S. I hope they get all the scumbag price gougers.

Good thing there. I haven't seen that sort of stuff in my neck of the woods, but once again, that may be because the authorities crack down so quickly.

There was a declaration yesterday by Texas Governor Rick Perry that price gougers of ANY KIND: gas, lodging, or food would be prosecuted by the Attorney General!!! By 5 PM today, more than 1000 complaints had been reported on the two toll-free tip lines!

Don't get too excited guys. I think it's detestable too. But I don't think the law is too clear on defining price gouging. Even if it's profiteering, it's tough to define. I work 2 blocks from the White House and there were a lot of street vendors today selling small American Flags, who normally just sell drinks and snacks. They sometimes charge $5 for an umbrella when it rains, which they bought at a dollar store in VA.

I'm happy to say that I don't think the price gouging was as wide spread as the media portrays. I just traveled by rental car from Southern California back to Minnesota, and did not encounter a single incident of price gouging, even though we were on obviously travel-swollen interstates. This includes gas, food and lodging. Although we had to try about four motels in Colorado before we found one with a vacancy, we eventually found a Comfort Inn about a hour west of Denver for $60 bucks a night. Gas prices were uniformly unchanged.

We heard about the gouging on the radio and were expecting to get hit, but didn't see any of it ourselves.
