Unhappy Baby shuts down in a envelope of smoke

Typical - late for work, meeting first thing. Beautiful day decide to take the Porsche. 20mins from home, roof down, sun shining smoke starts billowing like a James Bond smoke screen. Slowing down in traffic I'm totally enveloped by smoke. Everyones honking horns, flashing lights and pointing at the idiot with the Porsche that has oil drenching the ground below and rear lid.

Make an illegal turn across traffic and turn home hoping not to run out of oil or causing too much damage.

Arrive home, jump out, flip the lid and the engine's soaked in oil and its been pouring out all over the exhaust and heat exchangers

No time to check the source, jump in trusty family sedan and head off to work again...I owe I owe...its off to work I go!

Now I'll be stewing all day until I get home and find the source of the lost blood.

I hope its not too serious!

Mark

Nope...definitely not that. From the location of the oil in the engine bay I'd say its coming from one of the oil pipes running across the car behind the engine. From the amount of oil, Id also say it is either a burst pipe (although I don't think they're that old) or a pipe thats come off somewhere.

Guess I'll find out tonight

Mark

Don't panic. It's probably something minor.

Those cam oil lines can leak at the swaged joints, and the tensioner lines have a habit of breaking. Do you have the little support brackets for the tensioner lines? Without them you are sure to burst a line eventually.

maybe the s-shaped rubber oil return hose? I believe that was leaking on my car right before I bought it and it was a quick and easy fix. Seems like that could get cut and would quickly lose quite a bit of oil.

Hong Kong has about one car to every 10,000 people; and you have TWO. Are you Australian or something

This must be my week for coping sh#t about being and Aussie.

I'm a teacher in an international school. All my students for this year have had Canadian teachers for the past three years. They have been giving my stick about my accent (what bloody accent mate!!).

To top it off, the power (electricity) went out at school last week. Somehow we lost the answering machine voice (Canadian!!) so I jokingly said I'd do a new voice message. The boss laughed and said he wants people to understand that the message is for a school, not an invite for a barbie and beer!

Geez Think I'd better get on the dog and bone and ring me cobbers and see if they can put these buggers on the straight and narrow.

Cheers
Mark

You'd think in your bag of fruit the tin lids would give you some respect! Time to hit the frog and toad and come on home where the orange whips are cold and the sheilas are beaut.

Goodonyamate!

Check out oil-switch behind engine, plastic part on it often cracks and sprays oil all over the place...

Look for this:

Mark those are great places to start to look. My guess is the cam lines or the oil pressure switch.
If it is not immediately visible just clean the engine off and start it up. The leak will be noticed right away by the sounds of things.

BTW I feel bad for you having to replace Canadians, you have some BIG shoes to fill here.

Keep us informed and good luck

Proudly Canadian

Shaun, big shoes to fill, eh?

Mark - Any news on the car? You probably need some soothing "12th man" tapes!

btw, what do all the students think of an Aussie driving a white cabrio to work every day? You must be half a celebrity!

ARRRRRRRRRRR.................

Can't find the source of the leak.

I should have done what Shawn suggested and cleaned off the engine first. (Shawn - I'd have to say the Canadians I've met here are great people - so similar to Aussies - love a beer and a bit of bullsh#t.)

Presently I have pulled off a fair amount of stuff looking for the leak that I can't run the engine at the moment.

I think the leak is behind the air flow sensor. There's minimal oil either side of the engine, but a lot around the centre, under the air flow sensor.

Problem is I can't really see very well behind there

Maybe I need to take off the intakes now so I can get a better view

Definitely not the oil pressure sensor - its dry as a bone across the front of the engine.

Adam - defintely not a celeb. because of the P-car, although it does get looks. More likely I attract attention because of the surfboard either hanging out the back of the car or on the roof of the Mitsubishi - most here have never seen a surfboard!

John - Christ! I must be losing my Aussie heritage - even I didn't know half of what you said LOL

"Goondiwindi, Mate? Its about twenty stubbies straight ahead - or you can go back to the crossroads and turn left and its about fifteen stubbies!"

Well I think I'll go 'quiet the worms' and then get back into it!

Coooeee cobbers.

Mark

Stone the crowes mate!

You'd think in your suit the kids would give you some respect! Time to hit the road and come on home where the beers are cold and the women are exquisite.
