Robic Stopwatches and external buttons
Since most DE events don't allow Hot Lap Timers and transponders/receivers, I was wondering if anyone knew (looking for electrical experts here) how to wire external buttons into a Robic SC554 stopwatch. What I would like to do is mount the stopwatch in the car, then install a button on my steering wheel.
I realize I would have to open the case of the stopwatch and modify the case to attach the wiring, but it doesn't seem like it would be too hard. Simply recreate the contact point of the button that normally controls the function I wish to engage. The stopwatch will capture and store 30 laps at one time. When I get out of the car, I could review the times and gauge my progress (if any). Seems if I could get the wiring diagram I could accompish this. Any ideas here? Not worth the trouble? Suggestions? How about taping the watch to the steering wheel? I have seen this done but, of course, it will be observable. The best way to time yourself if you have to others to help is to videotape it and then time it off the monitor later.

Yes, I've seen it attached to the steering wheel as well. I just don't prefer that method. Would really like to be able to attach a small button to trigger the Stopwatch each lap.
I've used tapes before for some friends of mine. They always seem to be off. Not a great deal - probably no more than I would be since I will be triggering it from the steering wheel. But, I have a stopwatch, I don't have a camcorder... Brian |
