They are used in France and Belgium. Have seen a few on the road here in the states but not often. Also have seen one or two for sale on Ebay but rarely. If you know someone in Europe I would bet that they could come up with a set a lot easier than here in the states.

Yeah....but are yellow lenses a flag for the Gendarmes to pull ya over?

Just called the local CHP and they said it's a definite no-no in California....

First, they probably would be deemed as illegal here in Cal. but "So far..." I have not heard of anyone of the boyz (RGruppe that is...) having gotten a citation as a result of having the yellow lenses.

But then again I have spent a very considerable amount of time going thru all the c.v.c's (ca. vehicle code) reg's pertaining to vehicle lights, specifically forward illuminating lights.

In a nutshell, the cvc only states that all forward facing lights must be either white or yellow. I could not find anywhere in the cvc where it specifies WHICH lights must be what color !!!

If anyone can find this it would be great, cos I sure can't.

As it is now it seems as a kind of loophole of sorts

But It won't put me off.... I like 'em and intend on putting them on my ride...my luck I'll be the 1st to get pulled over too..

Hey Sam...my $$$ is burning a hole in my pocket!!!!

One thing that you'll notice with the guys that have the yellow headlight lenses is that they all seem to have a set of clear lensed driving lights as well (just like the black car in this post). My buddy up here in Oregon that has a set of these tells me that if he ever gets pulled over, he just says that the clear lensed driving lights are his "headlights". Seems like this could be a workaround. One thing I've been told is that these yellow French lenses only work in H1's and not in H4's. I guess this should be confirmed as well.

Newbie question here, but are those 7 and 9" Fuchs? Or 7 and 8's?

Thanks,

Whose car is that? It's beautiful. I love the driving light look. Basically everything about that car is spot on.

Just for the record ... the yellow lenses are designed for Bosch H1 headlamp assemblies, ONLY! Yes, they wil fit on an H4 assembly, but the beam pattern will NOT be correct!

The 'official' Porsche solution for the French market with H4's was a yellow-tinted H4 bulb ... per the 1972-73 Parts Catalog!

While I have not examined the output patten of an H4 headlamp with an H1 lens installed, several Pelicanheads have reported terrible lighting patterns when the incorrect lens had been installed by previous owners! In some cases the Bosch headlamp assembly was badmouthed ... by individuals wanting a 'better' solution! It was not until some of the H1/H4 ID 'points' that did not jive ... was it determined that the incorrect lenses were the problem!

Yes, you are correct, But if one compares the two, you will immediately notice that the yellow lenses that Perf Prod sells are a muddy, opaque sort of yellow, I suppose because they are plastic.

The Euro Bosch & Hella lenses are glass and have a very crystal clear yellow appearance. Note the high clarity of Curtiss' lenses in the pic abv, and then compare with the pic in the PP catalog, I saw both this last weekend at Autofest, the difference is profound.

Balls! And here I just dropped coin on some fine new yellow lenses. Well I guess there's only one true solution for my lack of correct lamps. And I DON'T mean selling off the yellow lenses, Muhah!

Dave,

Good luck on your quest for H1's ...

There are some occasional good deals on eBay ... last year I picked up a very good single H1 unit for a spare ... for $90.09 plus postage and money order fee! The catch was that the ad title said it was a Hella H1 headlamp ... so I'm sure many searches misses it if looking for 'Bosch H1 headlamp,' so keep an eye out for 'Porsche H1' or just 'H1' and you might get lucky!

Your car might be in the garage Curt, but you'd better hope that photo didn't steal its soul.

However judging by the drive back from Autofest, I'd venture a guess that it is still intact
