Modifying E cams to fit Carb cam carriers

My friend wants to fit E cams and PMO's to his rebuilt 2.4 CIS engine (along with appropriate P&C's etc).

Clearly the MFI pump extension to the LH cam will need to be 'accommodated' in some way. A search has only revealed that the 'cam needs a minor modification', but no details of what. I was thinking more likely to remove the plug at the rear end of the cam carrier and fit the seal etc that would normally be there.

Can anyone advise in detail what needs to be done, or point me to somewhere it is detailed please?

Mick

The pump drive extension can be easily cut off the cam and a normal plug put in the back of the carrier, but I would be more incined to leave the cam alone and make a cover for the back of the carrier. The regular MFI cam seal will keep the oil in.
regards,
Phil

I did that (fabricated a cover) to repair a leaking cam oil seal w/o removing the engine (also w/MFI E-cams). There are (3) M6 female threads around the area to attach a machined cover with a recess to accept the depth of the nose of the cam.

If starting from scratch, delete the protruding drive section from the driver's side cam, then use a factory plug to seal the now-unused MFI pump drive opening.

The carrier has a plug already as the car was originally a 2.4 CIS T.

If I get the extension cut off at a machine shop do I need to rebalance the cam in any way, or give any special instructions to the machinist?

Thanks

nope. just make sure he slices off the correct amount so it doesn't rub the plug. Compare with the other cam.

A saw and a BFH are essential tools in any pro's tool box.
