Ignition Questions??

hello,

I am thinking about going to an upgraded ignitio system but I have a few questions??

1. Which MSD Box do I need to replace the CDI Box from my 75 911 2.7 engine??

2. How adaptible is the MSD Unit to EFI Systems such as Haltech??

3. What are my option for a distributorless ignition system and what are the benefits of one??

4. Does anyone know how to wire the coil and CDI Box from a 75 911 2.7?? For the time being I would like to get the CDI Box hooked up but the PO cut the wiring harness!!

Thanks,
Ron

1) MSD 6A or 6AL (with rev limiter)

2) As far as I know, yes. The MSD (like the Bosch CDI) effectively sits between the distributor and the coil. With the Haltech, it would be triggered by the Haltech instead of the points/magnetic trigger. I may need to do this with my MoTeC controlled ignition (plugs fouled once slightly already)

3) www.electromotive-inc.com - ignition packs with timing control (although you just need coil packs if you have a Haltech 'cause it does the timing). Before Wayne chimes in, the TEC-3 is an alternative to the Haltech offering both ignition and fuel control. I have never looked into it, but you can probably buy the coil packs separately and for less money if you can figure out who makes them.

4) There are wiring diagrams for a '75 elsewhere on this site, I think. If you are replacing it with an MSD it isn't really a big deal - the MSD needs one wire from the points, an ignition switched +12 volts and the black/purple tach wire, plus its own dedicated +12v and ground.

(edit) - just a general comment, my research suggests it starts getting expensive to add coil packs when you look at pulleys modified to be crank triggers etc - let us know how you get on.
